our vision
we envision a world without violence, where compassion for self & others is unlimited & the tools for self-recovery are available to everyone. we feel true peace comes from within and that each individual should have access to these tools in order to heal themselves & their community.
mandala house provides self-directed healing programs to post/conflict populations. specifically, we are focused on survivors of gender-based violence & rape.
working with a trauma-sensitive yoga & breath awareness model in a group dynamic, we teach mind/body awareness tools that our practitioners can take into their lives--healing themselves & others.
the program
each country presents specific obstacles & opportunities. depending on the societal constructs, the program specifics vary. however, all programs cover fundamental psycho-social elements regarding: home, family, boundaries, past/present/future,trust, awareness & community. how we approach these concepts is based on the cultural protocol of each country we are working in.
this therapeutic angle is complemented by yoga & meditation techniques that help bridge the mind/body connection and create a pathway to self-healing. mandala house empowers our practitioners by providing them with skills that can be taken with them wherever they go.
mandala house can accommodate the length of the program depending on certain “in-country” factors, such as: logistics of travel, relationships with local NGOs, number of volunteers/participants, however, ideally, the teacher training is a two-week program meeting 4 hours daily.
long-term, mandala house is sustained through our teacher training program. this advanced level training allows the benefits of yoga to extend out into the population. working with our partner organizations to identify community members interested in becoming teachers, we train these individuals to become healers in their own community--promoting & inspiring renewal & growth.
we also provide daily public classes. these one hour classes allow more than one group of students to meet each day, integrating the maximum number of participants into the program.
our goal is to return every 4 months, ensuring our teachers--each of whom receive a stipend-- are able to handle the work and to evolve their techniques & abilities.
there are 26 million internally displaced people worldwide.
16 million additional refugee & asylum seekers.
over 50% are women & children.
at least one in three women has experienced physical/sexual abuse.
some areas of the world have rates as high as 70%.
